An astonishing in-depth account of all matters Celtic: legendary players, long-serving directors, famous victories, humiliating defeats . . . Scottish Cup joy and triumph at Lisbon . . . and hundreds of facts, meticulously researched for the gratification of the casual supporter and fanatic alike.
And not a dry-as-dust compilation. For example, did you know that Celtic were once nicknamed ‘the Huns’?
As the song goes (see back cover):
“Oh, they gave us James McGrory
and Paul McStay,
Johnstone, Tully, Murdoch,
Auld and Hay,
And most of football’s greats have passed through Parkhead’s gates
To play the game
in the Glasgow Celtic way.”
Celtic – the encyclopaedia offers the reader a chance to find out all about them – and so much more.
Tom Campbell was born in Glasgow in 1934 and has written extensively about Celtic including the authoritative The Glory and the Dream and Dreams and Songs to Sing (both with Pat Woods) and the controversial Celtic’s Paranoia – All in the Mind?
George Sheridan has been a life-long supporter of Celtic. He founded The Celt, a fanzine with a strong historical bent. He is also the co-author of An Alphabet of the Celts (with Eugene MacBride and Martin O’Connor) and of The Essential History of Celtic (with Graham
McColl).
