Frank Boyle is the popular and trenchant award-winning
cartoonist for the Evening News in Edinburgh where he passes daily comment on
the affairs of state and the positions and postures of politicians. This book is
a selection of Frank's work in that paper since March 1999. This neatly covers
the historic first term of the new Scottish Parliament, which has provided Frank
with lots of cartoon material. Hence the title Hooray for Holyrood.
"Scotland has its own parliament...now it has its own cartoonist. Vote
Boyle!"
Rory Bremner
"Frank Boyle's witty cartoons poke excellent fun at a city
establishment that often takes itself too seriously."
Irvine Welsh
"...the first thing I look at in the paper." "Frank Boyle's
cartoons?...Great!"

Due to
popular demand from the many followers of Boyling Point, a selection of his
cartoons appears in book form for the first time.
From the Author
Political
cartoons tend by their nature to knock politicians but I wanted the overall
message to be positive. Like the majority of Scots I voted for the parliament
and I would like to see it succeed. However, the book is not just about
Holyrood. It covers subjects as diverse as the campaign to save the Morningside
toilets to global warming.
Most
politicians are quite thick-skinned and seem to enjoy being the subject of
cartoons no matter how scurrilous. One exception was the fundementalist US
preacher Pat Robertson. He threatened to sue me over a cartoon I did of him (see
page 12). This was in my first week at the paper. In the end he backed down. So
in the spirit of open comment on the doings of those in power, if there are any
who were offended the first time, they have the opportunity with this book to be
offended all over again. For the rest, enjoy the book.
From
the Inside Flap
"Frank
Boyle is a master of the art of making cartoons, saying the unsaid and
unsayable. However, I wish he wouldn't draw me as a wee fat wifie."
